Hello and Happy Monday,
Lately, I’ve been trying to reconcile how to be back out into the world. When speaking with a friend the other day, we talked about “medicine” and how naming something “medicine” can have power. So I started to think of all the powerful medicine I could take to help me emerge into live classes.
Our words can be powerful medicine. How we use our words has an impact on us and all those that can hear us. I try to remind myself of this all the time. Our words can heal us, our internal thoughts, our out loud affirmations. They can also harm us, those self-deprecating jokes, our internal doubts, and fears.
Nature can be powerful medicine. Just being outside and feeling the grass under your feet, the sun, and the wind on your face. These last two weeks of yoga in the park were wonderful to spend time outside – some of it in stillness. I can stare at the trees in our backyard for hours. Watching them move, noticing the changes through the seasons, breathing in the fresh air.
Sleep can be powerful medicine. Allowing our bodies to completely rest. There is nothing like waking up in the middle of the night not being able to get back to sleep to realize how powerful it is?
Food can be medicine. Maybe it’s fresh fruit, maybe it’s chocolate cake – it all can be what we want it to be.
Movement is powerful medicine. Maybe it’s yoga flow, maybe it’s Pilates for Yogis, maybe it’s riding your bike, or running, or roller skating. Moving your body has so many benefits for our spirit.
Stillness is powerful medicine. Whether it’s meditation or just sitting – being still can be powerful, especially in a world where fast-paced movement is celebrated.
And today I received my first dose of some other powerful medicine. I almost teared up, I feel like I’ve waited so long for this vaccine, yet I know so many still that haven’t received theirs. I am hopeful for more face time with all of you in the coming months.
